This processional shrine of pagoda form was created to carry a votive during a Chinese funeral ceremony. The shrine was used to comfort to the soul of the dead. Pictured on the roof of the shrine in gold gilding is the mythical beast, the Qilin. A benevolent beast, the Qilin is associated with the goddess of fecundity.
