A Hidden Treasure: Demystifying the Art of Chinese Opera
November 2003 - April 2004
The Peking Opera has been one of the most important links of Chinese Heritage in many ways. From a historical view, it has accumulated important elements of the performing arts throughout different dynasties. From a cultural view, it combines the performing arts of local areas and differing ethnic groups.
The photgraphic display for the exhibit is comprised of a rare collection of turn-of-the-century Chinese opera masters, as well as photographs taken by Alexander Chuang of every Chinese opera performed in San Diego since 1995. The exhibit also contains translations of the plots from three operas.
